Hello Everybody,

Hope you have had a successful summer and that all your animals are doing OK. The weather in Shetland has not been very good this summer with lots of rain and very little sunshine. The upside to this is that we have lots of grass.

The 2010 HERD BOOK is very late and for this I apologise. This special edition will be published during October.

The Tall Ships visited here in July and it was extremely cold, with north wind and no sun, however spirits were not dampened and the whole town was buzzing. I said to one Norwegian that we were sorry that they had not had better weather and this is his response: ‘There is no such thing as bad weather just bad clothes’.

For those of you who do not know the Society celebrated it centenary in 2010. To mark this occasion the Shetland Cattle from Shetland Breeders Group did two things.

1. Published a 232 page, A4 book which is full of pictures of cattle, old and new, views of Shetland and many stories illustrating the importance of the Shetland Cow to the survival of the Shetland people and their heritage. There are a few copies still available. The cost is £27 including postage. If you wish to purchase a copy you can send a cheque, made out to SCFSBG to the Society address or phone 01595 69 3714 where we will be able to take payment by Credit Card at my shop Anderson & Co.

2. Arranged a four day trip to Shetland which included the main show, where a good number of cattle were presented, an all day Seminar followed by a Dinner / Dance then the last 2 days were spent visiting herds and sightseeing. A good time was had by visitor and Shetlander alike.

I am of course looking forward to receiving all your birth registrations for 2011. If you need a form just let me know.

The Society appreciates the time and effort put in by everybody ensuring that our dear Cattle do not become extinct. Thank you.

If you need anything please feel free to contact me by e-mail or phone to 01595693714 between 9 and 5 or at home in the evening on 01595809375 between 9 and 11.
